INFO:
"Let It Snow" is the debut single by Obey Robots – a bold new project from Rat (Ned’s Atomic Dustbin) and Laura Kidd (Penfriend / She Makes War). Connected by mutual friend Miles Hunt (The Wonder Stuff), the pair pool their disparate influences to break new ground.

An unflinching, anthemic powerhouse to close out a terrible year, “Let It Snow” announces itself on a motoric Krautrock groove recalling Stereolab’s “French Disko” if rewired by Queens Of The Stone Age or “Used For Glue”-era Rival Schools.
As her previously busy world reduced to the size of her Bristol studio, Laura started creating cut-up collages from Rat’s intense, melodic guitar parts, building new sound spaces to voice her hopes, fears and frustrations but, more importantly, to offer a hand to the uncertain.
The lyrics to “Let It Snow” issue a heady invocation to the weather gods to fast forward this worst of years by dousing the world in clean, crisp hope for brighter days, where we can hug our loved ones and gather in dark music venues to celebrate the wonders of being alive.
Rat and I are so delighted and thankful for the feedback we've had so far, for the people who've pre-ordered the 7" vinyl and CDs and who've chosen to pay for the download (but, honestly, we're happy for you to take it for free if you aren't in a position to contribute).
It's really exciting to have new music out in the world, and while I've been producing my solo music for a while, this is the first project I've produced outside of that. It feels good to be able to create and release quality tunes even in this shitty year. I never want to stop!
GIGANTIC THANKS always to the members of my Correspondent's Club, as well as the people who continue to support my work by buying it via Bandcamp. You're the only reason I'm able to do this as a job. It took 8 years to get here, but you kept showing up for me. Thank you.
I have no interest in shaming listeners for using streaming sites - you're paying for a legal, legitimately offered service that's too good to turn down. It's not your responsibility to fix all that, but I'm extra thankful for those who choose to buy my music. Thank you!
Musicians hear this all the time - "no-one buys music these days, no-one wants CDs, you should just send everyone to streaming". I vehemently disagree. I'm not in this for the numbers, and there are fixed costs to making music that can't be avoided.
I produce my music at home these days, recording every note of mine myself, gathering contributions from remote musicians as needed and sending it all off to a very talented mix engineer to make it sound amazing. I pay all these people, because they're doing their jobs.
If you decide to make physical manifestations of your music, there are more fixed costs - vinyl manufacture, CD manufacture, printing, what-have-you. Even a side project making two songs at a time can get very expensive - very fast.
SO, it's pretty bloody wonderful to note that, 4 days after launching, the Obey Robots project is approaching breaking even - and that's purely down to music fans getting on board our pre-order. Thank you! I love making music so much, but I'm not a vaguely wealthy person.
I amso thankful for the support of The Correspondent's Club (my own Patreon, basically) which helps me keep going and, again, just want to say to any musicians out there to ignore the people who tell you no-one wants to financially support your music making.
My motto is: make good things, be kind, share good things with humility, then make more good things.
I hope you have a chance to listen to this, I'm really proud of what we made: HTTP://penfriend.rocks/let-it-snow
AND I'd love to send you 2 free songs as a present: HTTP://penfriend.rocks/join

OH WOW, you really are sharing this - thank you! It feels harder and harder to reach people, and I always worry that if artists look "too professional / successful" then listeners will assume their help spreading the word isn't needed. Believe me - it's very much needed!
I treat the getting-the-music-into-the-world puzzle as very much part of my job, esp as I run my own label, but it is HARDDDDDD. Your assistance in sharing anything you find value in is always much appreciated.
Right now I'm finishing off tomorrow's podcast episode, a conversation between me and @rat_ned about the first song we wrote together. It's a tale of random occurrences leading to more random occurrences via @mileshuntTWS and @carinaround - subscribe at HTTP://penfriend.rocks/podcast
While you're waiting for episode 26, allow me to direct you towards episode 18, starring the man @mileshuntTWS himself: https://penfriend.rocks/miles/
