1/3 Great to hear u call on ur show earlier for people to do the right thing over Xmas & stay at home @markyptweets
Might be good to do a piece on reconsidering lighting the fire tho. It's a much loved, little discussd but quite damaging habit in Derry that we need to rethink

2/3 Burning solid fuels (i.e coal, turf, wood) is a real home comfort for many in Derry. But during cold weather makes our air deadly. Below was posted on Sunday by @dxngyi showing how bad it was over weekend in city. Almost everyone has central-heating, so fires are a luxury now
3/3 It's become common now for official air quality alerts to be issued in Derry ovr Winter. Almost entirely due to home fires. We need to start a conversation in the city about it, as it impacts health. Up for doing so on ur show?

You can check real-time pollution stats online from local monitoring stations in Rosemount & Strabane. Both currently at 'moderate' levels, tho Strabane highest in NI. The top 2 measures (PM2.5/10) are tiny particles frm burning. Hugely damaging to health
