1. Three implications.
1). This means by definition the US spread out spatial structure is a global competitive DISADVANTAGE say compared to Europe or rising cities in Asia like Shanghai or Beijing and that is showing up in the VC investment in high tech startups. https://twitter.com/DavidZipper/status/1336343244351954947
2). We cannot throw out the proverbial baby with the bathwater. Alongside important concerns for distribution & equity, we need to be focussed on cities as crucial sources of competitive advantage, notably innovation & productivity as sources of long run economic & job growth.
3). Most of all it means elevating cities & URBAN COMPETITIVENESS to the center of the national debate-the incoming Biden administration n & more-over US economic recovery & job growth. Without functionally clustered cities, we will lose a good deal of our economic advantage.
