The Plantation Bay thing makes me soooo furious. People with autism Are. On. An. Entire. SPECTRUM. You cannot characterize all of them by a single set of behaviors.
PEOPLE WITH AUTISM DESERVE SAFE SPACES. PEOPLE WITH AUTISM DESERVE BETTER.
PEOPLE WITH AUTISM DESERVE SAFE SPACES. PEOPLE WITH AUTISM DESERVE BETTER.
I stand with all parents of kids with special needs. Let us all continue to work toward safer, more inclusive spaces for them. They deserve happiness and respect as much as anyone.
My eldest was diagnosed on the spectrum when he was 2. He was non verbal until he was five. It’s an ongoing struggle, but we are very proud of his progress. For people to invalidate all of it by thinking all kids with special needs can be ‘trained’ to be ‘normal’ is insulting.
It’s not easy. What’s more, the techniques you use on one child may or may not have the same effects on other similarly diagnosed kids.
But these kids try. They try so so hard every single day. And they deserve your respect as much as anyone else.

They don’t act out on purpose. They don’t do it to be annoying or to call attention to themselves.
I’m not writing this because I want you to pity them. But a bit of empathy, understanding, & kindness toward your fellow man would be really appreciated. Please and thank you.
