Remember Marcin Wasilewski?

‘Was’ to his mates, the big Polish centre-half was a cult figure at Leicester City, making 61 appearances between 2013 and 2017.

He was also a bit of a character off the pitch by all accounts and liked eating…glass.

Kevin Phillips: “One Summer we stayed in Thailand at the owner’s house by a river.

David Nugent had some expensive trainers & Was lobbed one into the river. Nuge said nothing 'cause it was Was.

He ate some glass when the lads were out one night. That didn’t surprise me”
Liam Moore: “When he first signed we went on a team bonding night out.

After a few drinks, the lads gave him some stick. He looked hard as nails and took it well, but he was chewing on a champagne glass.

Crunching it between his teeth he said, ‘Is that what you think now?’
Dean Hammond: “We were sitting down for a drink in a really nice restaurant Wes Morgan had booked.

The service was slow, so we had a few drinks. I don’t know why, but he smashed this glass and started eating it!

He was really good fun socially and got me drunk a few times”
Of course, it goes without saying that he got on famously with hardman manager Nigel Pearson.

He described Was as “An exceptionally tough, honest professional and a good player. He’s also bonkers. Even at my size if he’s late, I change the meeting time!”
