Big elbow bump to people who, like me, find this time of year a bit difficult, and don't enjoy it very much, and then feel a bit worse because of a strong awareness that you're not really allowed to find it a bit difficult and not enjoy it very much.
It is the same for me every year. I can feel the big strong arms of nature pick me up and turn me back in the right direction from the moment Winter Solstice occurs. The change is slow but always palpable. As for the few days leading up to it: they are reliably total bastards.
December needs to get more honest about what it’s really about and rename itself Insomniauary.
