I am so grateful to everyone who believed in me. I've spent this past month thinking critically about where my energies needed to be focused on & how to organize w/love & joy & what spaces are giving me that energy. This was a bittersweet decision. 1/ https://bklyner.com/whitney-hu-sbkma/
When I re-launched in July, I didn't think we would be still going w/ our (growing) food distribution in December. But here we are! Negotiating w/this timeline vs my goals-driven alternative timeline was hard. But I've grown, learned, & have so humbled by this process. 2/
As my campaign winds down, we'll be launching an open-sourced policy platform for other candidates to utilize (shoutout to policy fellow @DanielaFinlay). We know I have some hot thoughts...and now for my former candidate colleagues...they can be yours too! 3/
We're also launching a small business hub for our immigrant businesses because our government has failed to provide language justice (again) amidst already confusing & changing protocols. @azhang852 is brilliantly organizing these efforts. 4/
We also hired three student fellows from the District. Making sure those funds go back to investing in our community! Shoutout to Keyla, Amy, & Destiny who are helping us with these last-two efforts. 5/
I don't plan to endorse until the Spring out of respect to all three of the leftist candidates in the race that I organize with (& have prior to us running). When I do endorse, I will do it in true #RCV fashion to annoy Eric Ad--I mean to encourage true democracy. 6/
Finally, my thanks. So many thanks for @amybettys who had to move mountains for me to focus on fundraising but always with so much hope & love. For @poekest who offered the best strategy & advice but also all the comfort & stoop wine nights no matter how busy she was. 7/
To @yosoycange who checked me when I was being stubborn but also always provided support & silly texts. To @marctorrence for being the best treasurer & giving the most comforting pep talks. To @IfyWorks who always gave me clarity & grace when I needed it the most. 8/
And to *soooooo* many more people. I can tweet love letters and paragraphs. You run for office asking for people to believe & support you. You turn around & become really surprised when people do. Thank you Zoe Grueskin at @bklyner for this piece & for the care in it. 9/
I'm thinking a lot about people who found a home in my campaign. From Juan Carlos to Tiffiney Davis to so many people who had long conversations with me. The work that I'll continue to do to make sure that we continue to build power from the ground up. 10/
AND FINALLY, I'll have an email (and will share that later) but if you want to support me, might I say today is a good day to volunteer for your local mutual aid? Or maybe even #SouthBKMutualAid? Sign up at http://southbkmutualaid.com ! Tons of work to be done. ❣️ end/
