This is embarrassing. It’s worth bearing in mind that Texas AG Ken Paxton, who filed the suit, is under criminal investigation by the FBI after his own entire senior staff turned him in for corruption. Maybe he thinks disgracing himself further will win a pardon. https://twitter.com/jadler1969/status/1336321069146382336
Paxton fired or got resignations from the seven senior attorneys who accused him of assorted felonies. He plans to run for reelection in two years. https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/paxton-employees-resign-after-allegations/269-91568e2f-d98d-4e5e-b771-059afec3a1e6
Just, you know, in case you were wondering: Deputy Attorneys General do not typically accuse their bosses of committing crimes frivolously.
Last month news reports confirmed Paxton is under investigation by the FBI. Today he filed an utterly bonkers lawsuit against several other states parroting Trump’s bogus claims about a stolen election. https://apnews.com/article/ken-paxton-austin-texas-crime-f8413d14842d848e69cf81bb4d2e87e2
Oh, and he’s also under indictment for securities fraud. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2020/07/27/texas-ag-ken-paxton-was-indicted-for-fraud-5-years-ago-will-he-ever-face-a-jury/
(Some of you may be too young to recall, but once upon a time anyone in Paxton’s position would have been expected to immediately resign in disgrace...)
