1/4 Green turtles are the most charismatic species within the Ascension Island MPA. You can see why from these pictures! They are present in the MPA between December and July, returning from their feeding grounds in Brazil over 2,000km away.

2/4 Each female comes to Ascension every three to four years to mate and lay on average six separate clutches of eggs. Each nest has an average of 120 eggs and when these hatch the young turtles make a dash for the sea.

3/4 It is estimated only 1% of hatchlings make it to adulthood, that's why it is so important for us to protect and monitor them and their nests to make sure they have a fighting chance.
