Before proceeding further a reminder that this thread contains spoilers for manga so anime onlies stay away.
When we are first introduced to Gabi, she is the the embodiment of the typical brain washed eldian. We learn that her main goal is to kill the people of paradise. She also aims to inherit armored titan just so she can free her family from internment.
Doesn't she remind you of someone? Gabi just like Eren had never actually known about the people of opposite side so naturally she was bred to hate them. She also thinks that they are the reason why the eldians on out are treated that badly. Just remember she is just 12 yr old.
When Reiner doesn't paint them in a negative light as she expected she is taken aback but the words of her aunt reassures her.
At the festival this girl saw her two dear frds along with tons of people being killed by the people of paradise. This fuels her hatred even more. What would you do if you were in her place huh? Try to understand them? Really?
She even sees with her own eyes Sasha kill a guard who was helping her to run. Now, I am sure you all will think hey it's cool we understand why she did that but Gabi hadn't read the fucking manga before chp 90! Gabi witnesses colossal destroying ships, she sees beast and cart+
getting their ass handed, wh being eaten, jaw about to be eaten and oh yeah Reiner in a bad condition as well. So naturally when she spots their airship she climbs aboard in anger and shoots the first person she can. Sasha. Now before hating this young girl, I advice you to go+
read what I read above again. Ok maybe you might be saint with a big heart and brush off the hate against bunch of strangers who killed your dear people but hey some choose to believe in idk the world who portrayed them as devil.
She is taken as prisoner in paradise but later escapes to find Zeke and aims to ask why he betrayed them. She and Falco meet kaya there who ends up taking them their home after they say they ran away from home.
There we see Gabi refusing to stay & eat with devils and wanting to escape, we even see her swatting away Sasha's mom's hand when she tries to pat the girl as she doesn't want to be tainted by them. Another thing which shocks her is their dialect which is similar to south marley
When she finds out that kaya knew they were from Marley she tries to attack her only to be held back by Falco & asks why are they pretending to be so kind? They are evil. Kaya discloses that her mom was eaten by a Titan and asks what did she do to deserve this? Her mom never+
hurt anyone. Why are they being blamed for their ancestors crime? This is the first time Gabi gets an opportunity to question herself. She is also confused when kaya decides to help them escape as why the devil would ever do that?
One of the biggest factor in her development occurs when it is revealed that she killed Sasha in front of Sasha's parents but Sasha's father take the knife away from Nico who is about to kill Falco and Sasha's mom tells to let Falco go Why oh why didn't they want to kill her?
Why did Mikasa a frd of the girl she killed saved her? Why did they not let her die? Her perfect vision of seeing them as devil starts being crushed repeatedly. When Falco ingests zeke's spinal fluid we see her priorities being changed drastically.
Later on she stops colt from attacking nile who helped Falco escape. She even admits that she was wrong. She regrets killing Sasha and apologises for dragging Falco in mess. Yes she shoots eren later on but it's only coz she sees colt being killed, Falco being turned to mindless.
Later on she even saves kaya and blouse family from titan and calls herself a devil for killing so many. When she learns that Falco is been taken to be eaten, she begs Armin and co to let him go. All she wants is Falco back, she doesn't want to fight.
We even see her apologizing later on for Marley's mistreatment and view of paradise to 104. Just like Reiner she got to know the people of paradise first hand too and realised her mistake and saw that they were all the same on both side of the sea.
This young girl even asks them to kill her but let Falco go to niccolo as she knows that only she is to be blamed for that. Didn't Reiner and the others change as well? Heck they killed much more people than Gabi. So if he can get forgiveness why can't this young girl?
Her development is one of the best in aot and I am so proud of how far she has come. Yes I know as someone who loved Sasha it's hard to do that but you have to acknowledge that she has changed. She is a human being a young girl after all.
If you want to focus all that hatred do it on the king who started the war and abused and raped ymir. Who let his own children eat their mother. But not on this young girl. If Sasha could tell you, she would say the same to forgive her. Thats who our favs are. They understand.
