Yeager flew the chase plane for his friend Jacqueline Cochran on May 18, 1953, when she became the first woman to break the sound barrier. His bill for expenses included the replacement of chickens that stampeded when her low-flying Sabre jet flew over a ranch.

In 2013, Yeager visited the National Archives in College Park with a film crew who were working on a documentary. He was able to see some of his official aviation records, now part of the holdings of the National Archives.
