First, I tackle some reasons why to use academic Twitter, incl. connecting with other ppl in your area & accessing diverse perspectives. Plus, you can give & take expertise, opinions, and signal boosts.
Some benefits are altruistic, but let's face it: some are selfish, too (2/7)

Then I shift to basic Twitter skills, incl. setting up a professional account, how to start out (esp. if you're intimidated), deciding on your "brand," and finding people to follow.
I included time for attendees to follow one another and a slide of my own recommendations! (3/7)

I often hear that people don't know what to tweet about when starting out. That's natural!
As such, I included a slide of ideas and examples outside of tweeting your own published papers (covered more extensively later by @psylovich)! (4/7)

Now for intermediate skills, incl. social norms & getting noticed. I addressed a few unwritten rules for interacting on Twitter but also took ?s here since I have the curse of knowledge!
I also floated some strategies for getting noticed: pic here, but more are on OSF! (5/7)

Finally, advanced Twitter skills incl. scheduling & organizing content and taking care of yourself. See the OSF for the former two!
Taking care of yourself means maintaining "regular" productivity AND sanity. Set time limits, know thyself, and block people when needed! (6/7)

We then shift into @psylovich portion on creating threads for your own research!
Even as a seasoned Tweep, I learned A LOT about how to compose better threads (incl. this one... can you tell?)! Slides on the OSF & if she does a thread on those, I'll link that below! (7/7)
