My top Hip-hop albums of the year, a thread. Yes I know I have 25 followers but I'm presenting an opinion.
5. The Price of Tea in China - Boldy James and Alchemist
https://open.spotify.com/album/52yTF9qryiuTlSNqhHObgd?si=fWyIl4QeTICodhpSjpVCCw
Alchemists's uncanny ability to match the aura of any artist to bring out their best is shown through smooth prod that kept Boldy's Detroit Grit. James' most enjoyable and well written tracks to date
4. Little Dominques Nosebleed - The Korea Town oddity
https://open.spotify.com/album/1wdUMeCTyhOZts9ns6YWvH?si=ronPDRg9TOaXh5YFWbBNvQ
With it's personal story telling and full on personality this self-produced album showcased all that's great about Dominques sound. Truly experimental, sewn together with interludes and spoken samples.
3. RTJ4 - Run the Jewels
https://open.spotify.com/album/6cx4GVNs03Pu4ZczRnWiLd?si=TfDWqtXkR62u6ef2gi1eEg
My favourite RTJ project ever. Bringing El-Ps signature production to the forefront, with topical and relevant lyricism throughout. Mike's verse on walking in the snow gives me chills. Features are great, polished political HH.
Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist
https://open.spotify.com/album/3znl1qe13kyjQv7KcR685N?si=oU1jzxWcQXuqYjfW6h5aeQ
My comment about Al's production remains, he brings the best out of any MC. Gibbs is at his best over gorgeously crisp instrumentals, he's giving you Flow and personality. The sample in 1985 is unforgettable, GRAMMY
1. Descendants of Cain - Ka
https://open.spotify.com/album/0yhyMBfxKhjy1f7TsXXssl?si=Cv2IhTqvRF6fIlteAZlYNg
Ka brings a mature and revealing album. His self-produced, biblical allegory based beats provide a perfect backdrop for some of the best verses I've ever heard. Ka's pen tells stories, provokes thought and will age perfectly.
First time doing something like this. Enjoyed but felt very restricted by character limit. This kind of content may be appearing on a YouTube channel or Online Magazine from me in the near future. Any feedback is appreciated. Drop your top 5 HH Albums of the year 😤
