I disagree. I don't think Tyson was getting any casuals b/c who wanted to see Tyson finish story w/ Jericho. But Shaq is a weekly figure on TNT and we're talking holiday season NBA opening week here. I disagree either of these shows attempted to "next level" grow their audience https://twitter.com/TrevorDame/status/1336230068687802368
until last week. Which was the "call your friend" moment @TrevorDame I also don't believe that this viewership on Wednesday has ever really had a casual audience tuning in. I think judging from Oct 2019 numbers there is a split 1.70M that watch both shows. But in 2019 they viewed
...the product live. Which is why Week 1 AEW was viewed by 1.4M and had a .68 demo. IMO the hardcore wanted to watch new show's debut and majority only knew Jericho. I don't think that fan base disappeared, they're instead of watching 1 show split & about 300K watch on DVR
This is really AEW's first attempt to actually try to net the casual + lapsed wrestling fans. They never had a nostalgic figure who made you curious in Sting and a live figure from main stream w/ Shaq who relates to all demos who's been hinting on NBA mainstream how he wants to
..wrestle one of their stars in Cody.
The truth and I respect your opinion, b/c it is well thought. The 98 craze, began b/c they had a nostalgic current in Foley who was a hardcore fan fav. It wasn't b/c the product was good. B/c history shows the tune in happened for 1 match

AEW is going w/ the brand partnership signal, that's making the hardcore enthusiastic about this week. The casual is curious about Shaq. What that will do, nobody truly knows. But historically we've only seen one company really attempt it over the last 10 years.
We do have to acknowledge AEW brought Tyson for a PPV bump, and it did work and they didn't let him tank his show after they saw it didn't work for the casual TV audience. Which bless him, but Jericho miscalculated the relevance for an out of limelight Tyson on an 18-34 market.
To tell you the truth @TrevorDame doing nothing keeps you stagnant and complacent. You're not going to get any growth by doing nothing, you'll just tug of war w/ the same 1.7 via live or DVR viewing. Hence why this really isn't a bad thing b/c your hardcore is already set.
