Good morning! Here's a thread on the difference between PREP and PEP. Lets educate each other on these things. @sonny370
PrEP is a medication you take proactively to prevent HIV. It is a pill you take every day. PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis.
PEP is medication you take to prevent HIV after you think you may have been exposed to the virus, and within 72 hours. You will need to take PEP every day for about a month. PEP stands for post-exposure prophylaxis.
There are two medications approved for use as PrEP: Truvada and Descovy.

Truvada:external icon is for all people at risk through sex or injection drug use.
Descovy:external icon is for people at risk through sex, except for people assigned female at birth who are at risk of getting HIV from vaginal sex.
PEP should be used only in emergency situations. It is not meant for regular use by people who may be exposed to HIV frequently.
Next we will do a thread on undetectable virol loads and the importance of taking your meds correctly
