See after WW2 China was divided, and the US supported Chiang Kai-shek and his KMT government forces against the People's Liberation Army (PLA) led by Mao, and Mao had one thing in mind, establishing Communist red China as a world power. We pushed back when Mao invaded Korea.
Truman couldn't stomach using another nuclear weapon to force Mao and China to back down in Korea, but from the days Ike was sworn end he made it clear to Moa he would have him glowing in the dark in a NY minute, if they didn't ceasefire in Korea.
