Now that the report into the Christchurch terror attacks has been released, it will take some time to digest its contents and formulate a good grounded opinion about it, but here is my initial thoughts about it:
- What I already suspected is now formalised in this report, there was inappropriate concentration when it comes to our counter terrorism efforts.
- I find the language somewhat contradicting in the report, in one hand it acknowledges system failures,  yet on the other hand it disestablishes any accountability that this could have been detected , I highlight the two statements below to illustrate.
"if the known risk that a terrorist could take advantage of New Zealand’s lax regulation of semi-automatic firearms had been addressed earlier, it is likely that there would have been no terrorist attack on 15 March 2019"
"there was no plausible way he could have been detected except by chance"

- In other words, had there been better regulations , my brother Hussein would still be alive.
-  So essentially I am not surprised that  the terrorist fell under the radar, because the radar wasn't looking in *all* direction.
- I am grateful for the second lease of life that I have, the terrorist was planning to do his attacks on Eid, and I always go to Eid prayer, it took me a while to process this.
- To Judith Collins saying it's only the fault of one individual who is in jail right now, to her I say "wtf" .
- Justice has been served by the terrorist being in jail and getting life imprisonment with no chance of parole, now justice will need to be done for the sake of our future generation and safety.
- I accept the apologies of the prime minister and the police, in hoping that there will be a proper execution of the recommendations
- Irrespective of what the report says, we all play a part in reducing hate not just at government level, but at individual level.
- The recommendations are robust and highlight all the right areas , I look forward to the implementation of the recommendations to ensure a safer Aotearoa for us all
