John Lennon was a man with flaws. I've been a big The Beatles reader since i was a kid and, the more i read, the more i learned that some of his actions should not be replicated

It's safe to say that he's not my personal role model but Lennon has still left a big mark in my life
I fell in love with the band when i was 11. They are a huge part of how I view pop culture, learned the English language and other things that mattered in my life (playing guitar, etc). I also grew up enjoying Lennon's solo stuff. Him and the band ignited my love for music.
I've read literatures of his complicated childhood, the repurcussions of his fame, the irresponsible actions he caused, his change in heart and better path prior to his untimely death - and it conflicts me at times. I idolized him when growing up, but again, he's no role model
Personally, through music and his paasion for peace, there were aspects that i learned from him that shaped the positive side of my life. It's something that will never be erased because they came to me in my very formative years, and i will be forever appreciative of that.
Becoming a Beatles fan and knowing that I'll never get a chance to meet him was a huge bummer. Knowing that he's left a darker side of legacy is another one. I've accepted that criticisms from his actions are very warranted. And I will always have sympathy for Cynthia and Julian
That being said, it's been 40 years since his passing - pretty much the amount of time he had on earth. That strikes a bit (at least) hard for me. I've always wondered what he would've set out to do if he were still alive, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way.
