As I noted here, 5 of 10 cabinet level appointments have been women.
Problem for Susan, however, is what she meant was white women.
2 of 5 are black. A third is a woman of color.
Then thereâs the Vice President, who is black and Indian.

Weâre going to have this conversation, because it needs to be had. It was a problem in the primary, and it is a problem here.
*White feminism* does not belong in the modern Democratic Party.

Unfortunately, I think thereâs a lot of work to do in our party to education folks on the concept of intersectionalism, which actually isnât all that complicated.

People are lots of things! Queer black woman. White gay Jewish man (me). Straight Native woman. Gay trans man.
You can embraces as many or as few identities as you choose.
These identities *intersect*, creating unique individual life experiences.

And *ALL* of them are valid.
So when you talk about womenâs rights, for example, you need to recognize that includes a lot of things that donât affect *ALL* women. And thatâs ok!

Conversely, just because someone has a lot of differences than you doesnât mean that they canât represent your interests as well.
A trans woman, for example, can be a champion of womenâs rights the same as a cis woman.

Thereâs a lot more to talk about on this topic, and Iâm not the best one to explain this all because Iâm no expert and Iâm still learning.
But I hope we can stop doing this thing where we accept this sort of exclusionary civil rights.
