Some questions have been up after my AkaYona thread over my analysis on Soowon and Yona's leadership and effect on Kouka. Just to clarify some of the things I said there I want to bring up some of the panels that helped me construct that opinion on both of them.
Most of my analysis goes back to this specific chapter, Chap 72: Those Who lead. In said chapter there two important things that we need to focus on. First, those who lead and those who don't. Second of all, Yona straight forward response to fake leadership.
In this Chapter too, Yona understands what her country needs and wants and what it implicates for her. She understands that her country's needs can be satisfied with a king like soowon, but slightly off, we don't get to see what the country's wants are at all this soon.
Now in chapter 137: Those who would aid us. In the diplomacy war against xing, we also see that is not only Soowon and Yona who are playing the chess game, but also Hak. As a military man stronger than an army, Hak leads people in and out of the battlefield as well.
Going back to the point, later we see lord Taejun been completed up for the task of helping Yona, even as this might cost his head in the future. He gladly accepts knowing the heart of his people are with Yona, not with the king. Which is later proven when they rescue Yona.
Both Taejun and his people have changed thanks to Yona's powerful will and the dragons. Taejun awknowlegded that and is fully aware that his country is now a new one not thanks to military power or won wars but thanks to a small red dragon.
In order to achieve his goal, soowon didn't care much for the sacrifices he had to make. He had thrown that human part of himself away, which makes him detestable in my personal opinion. The day he tried to kill Yona, he chose power instead of his humanity.
This is what I meant when I said people love Yona and want to fight for her more than "ah we don't know why we are fighting. But that's what the king wants us to do" the people behind Yona, ain't chess pieces for Yona as they are for soowon. Regardless of how he loves humans.
Yona is without a doubt, the rightful king of the dragons. Just like Zeno said, even the heavens would help Yona if necessary. They would follow her, not just because of the dragon blood but because of who Yona is as a person. She is a leader.
While Yona was trying to stop the war, King soowon was constantly pushing for it even when there were many opportunities for him to try and find a solution. He rejected those opportunities for the sake of power. (He wants enough power for Kouka to stand a chance against Kai)
Yona is completely straight forward about her approach. She now understands how these ppl thought of her father's death as necessary, but if it was necessary then she at least wants a kingdom not govern by those sick with power. That's the type of leader she would not approve of
Soowon has not been aware of Yona's growth till this moment. The fact that he asks for Hak immediately after seeing her means that he doesn't recognize yet that she can hold it on her own. Which she can and he gets thrown under the mud by her unwavering will.
This goes back to chapter 72. Yona once again, disapproves of another fake leader, Yunho, Soowon's dad. Exactly before Soowon had admitted to be okay with his dad's methods, Yona rejects that type of king. She rejects soowon's way of thinking. Which causes conflict.
Just like Kyesook says at this moment. The problem was not that Yona did all that but the fact that she was successful. She was able to move the masses, ABOVE soowon's orders. She had made herself a thread to king soowon. Because she was powerful and untouchable, a leader.
Finally, Lili and her people were also moved by Yona's heart. Even if Soowon wanted her dead, he couldn't touch her. Yona herself was not long powerless as she now has become a figure of salvation, country to soowon who had become king based on a lie and heritage.
Soowon himself had no other option but to listen to Yona and move according to what her heart desired. This is not to tell people that Soowon's method are wrong but to show how much is Yona affecting the kingdom, even more than Soowon could.
The war against xing would've ended with both armys extremely damaged, a war that Yona prevented and soowon wanted. To say the least, we can all agree that now that Yona has become the woman that she is, she is superior in leadership to soowon.
