So there is an argument and I buy it, that a lot of communication problems at the Company level are often operator error - which, yes, however.
1) That doesn't stop a tank or infantry company from having a 25U
2) How do you fix operator error? Training by SME's. It is a fact https://twitter.com/LostLT1/status/1335979432494985219
that when a "gold standard" for an FSC is one JCR and three radios per convoy NCOs and junior Soldiers don't get a lot of practice where they build that expertise.
Also if you're in an FSC, good luck finding time to train, it's very difficult and it is much easier to have SMEs
ready, vice trying to train them up from a low level, not to own fault, to where they can teach. Doable, yes, however additional time, time FSCs struggle to get.
Even with NCO SMEs the 25U acts as a backstop, when there's that problem that no one can fix, the interface with S6,
and perhaps most importantly, in an FSC you are either a mechanic, a cook in the DFAC, or you're in the Distro Platoon, which is why Distro usually gets all the additional duties cause if it's a mechanic then they can't fix shit and that makes XOs sad. A 25U primary job, and
the focus would be commo, not trying to shove commo in between missions or maintenance, purely commo
3) Pretty sure with the FTCP/CTCP/UMCP you have a more diverse set of communications devices requiring a little more expertise, hence 25U
4) Is the FSC a company or is it not?
My tank company didn't have a good 25U, we raised hell, trying to get a better one, but we're just not gonna give a fuck about an FSC. We can't support the fight if we can't talk to the people in the fight who need the sustainment support we need. In LSCO across large distances
in a contested environment, buzzword, buzzword, our critical advantage is trained Soldiers, trained by SME's, taking full advantage of their equipment's capabilities for Commo that starts with a 25U
