People love to criticize black people’s health in anyway possible, they love to say we eat too much fried food, put too much sugar in everything and do anything to blame us for our health issues as a whole. They love to blame us but don’t blame the healthcare system or even—
environmental classism which both negatively effect the health of black people. The healthcare system literally has built-in practices that don’t allow black people to get correct treatments, get mistreated or not treated at all. Many black people (specifically black mothers) die
in the hands of medical professionals and it’s not an accident. Also poorer populations (usually urban [BLACK] areas) literally are exposed to more toxic shit like poor air quality due to pollution, lead poisoning and bad water...and it’s harder for them to pay for better quality
environments because they (we) have to sacrifice the environment to live in the standards that we do. When we ask the government to help we get cases like Flint, Michigan... There are solutions but the people in charge don’t really wanna explore them.
We can even talk about how targeted/catered towards black people these businesses are. There are way less “healthy” food places placed in low income areas and when there is healthy options they are almost always overpriced; a product of gentrification. The point is, no matter
what we do differently, there are operations in place that make is maintain a lower level of living. It doesn’t matter how we eat or how much we exercise there will always be an inequality there to keep us disproportionately unhealthy. As I said this was more of a thought spill-
I know it’s all over the place and lacks supportive points but I just wanted to put this on the tl to spark discussion.
