I’m officially on Christmas vacation until January! This tweet isn’t meant to brag, rather to highlight what a great employer I believe our military is to work for.

They’re looking for good ppl right now & thought I’d post a thread for anyone who is maybe thinking of joining 1/
but want to know more from my experience and to AMA.

The CAF taught me a trade (Red Seal), how to lead and how to follow. As well as many other skills over my 20 years.

I make good money, have job security, full benefits and enjoy many “perks”. 2/
One is I get paid to work out during my work hours which often includes playing sports. I also will receive a good pension (I could retire this February with a full pension, I am 39).

It’s not Hollywood either. 90% of my job has been a 9-5 gig. I have a family and a life 3/
outside of uniform and the military recognizes the importance of that and tries to find balance. Something to remember however, upon joining you are placing “Service before Self”.

It’s not all bombs and bullets either. We have engineers, HR, finance, cyber ops, cooks and 4/
mechanics to name a few of the >100 trades.

I once went a full year where I never worked past noon on a Friday. We came in and played sports, cleaned up and hit the mess or a pub for lunch and a pint.

We’re known throughout the world for our professionalism and values 5/
I’m a senior NCO and I take my responsibility very seriously to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace for everyone. We are a family and they are my top priority.

With the good comes the bad. Yes, I’ve also had to spend days, weeks and even months working around the clock 6/
sometimes in dangerous and austere conditions. To me that’s part of the adventure though (there’s always the RCAF if you prefer hotels 😜).

We also have our share of bad apples. I’ve seen discrimination and harassment. As a member though, there are many tools I have at my /7
Disposal if I’m a witness or victim of such toxic behaviours and feel completely supported by my Chain of Command. The military has evolved just as our society has over the years. My dad was also in the Army and I grew up on bases all over Canada and Europe and have seen many /8
Changes over these 40 years.

I’ll end by saying that I truly love what I do and a big part of that is the people I work with. It’s not for everyone but it’s a damn fun place to work most days.
