|| DRAFTKINGS SORRY NOT SORRY THREAD || This was not a great DraftKings week for me. Allow me to explain why a week like this is not usually one where the DFS Lineup Genius (and therefore my lineups) hits. In one of the large-field tournaments I entered, the winning lineup had
262 DraftKings points, an incredibly large total and one I gasped at, since this didn’t feel like a particularly high-scoring week to me. When I looked at their lineup, I immediately was drawn to Frank Gore, who had no points. He was a cheap RB, who did nothing, yet this lineup
scored 262 points. For context, I believe my highest scoring lineup ever scored around 240 points, and this one was top 10 in the Milly Maker. Anyway, to get 262 points while harboring a Frank Gore donut, you have to hit the absolute nuts. This winning 262 pt lineup had a
couple mildly correlated pieces, and then several random, low to mid tier players. These 5 low to mid tier guys all had 150+ yards and 1-2 TDs. The odds of successfully plucking the 5 best values from 5 different games and playing them in your lineup to fill it out is incredibly
unlikely, and something I just don’t try to do. The odds are NOT in your favor with this method. So, anytime there aren’t many good, back and forth shootouts, and when a random QB like Derek Carr is the high scorer (thanks to the NYJ playing tight man to man coverage on the
final play of the game, while rushing 7 (!!), up by a TD, and just needing to prevent a 40 yard play from happening, but instead don’t do max protect -since they’re tanking- and allow Ruggs to get 10 feet open on a game-winning fly route...) Continuing on, in weeks like this,
where the winning lineups are not the most statistically sound or well-constructed, you are unlikely to see me having several lineups hitting well beyond the pay line. This was one of those weeks, on to the next. If you want to hear more from me on DFS, I'll be on
the @rotounderworld Big Tilt Podcast this week as a guest. Don't expect ANY humor or emotion from me, when it comes to analytics and DFS, I'm 100% serious.
