So the change of presidents at MSNBC is now official.

I don’t know @RJonesNews but from all I’ve heard I congratulate @msnbc on an outstanding choice. And I’d like to put something into the record about its incumbent president, Phil Griffin... https://www.nbcnews.com/news/all/rashida-jones-named-next-president-msnbc-n1250296?cid=eml_nbn_20201207
2) Phil was my 1st producer, ever, in TV, at CNN in 1981. He was the Executive Producer of my first MSNBC show in 97-98. He’s been my boss. He’s been my friend. He’s been my enemy. He’s been my frenemy. He’s screamed at me and I’ve screamed at him. We’ve been close, and distant.
3) He’s been at the center of my going to MSNBC, leaving MSNBC, returning to MSNBC, leaving MSNBC again, and even a near-hit on re-returning there ;-)

I have known him for 20 years in EACH OF TWO DIFFERENT MILLENNIA. We texted yesterday. I think I can say we know each other.
4) For all the tumult, Phil has been the constant center - and one that has frequently been all that stood between MSNBC existing, and being replaced by an all-Lockup Channel. He provided cover for me as I took Countdown towards politics and commentary, and HE threw himself in...
5) front of all the bullets and trains. And when I had this crazy idea that somebody named @maddow with 0 TV anchoring experience should be my substitute with a goal of getting her her own show, Phil Griffin was THE first NBC executive (and for months the only one) who signed on.
6) Phil’s influence was stealthy and most of the publicity was usually blame for decisions made by the same people above him who said “shut Olbermann up” and “no woman can anchor in prime time” and “we can’t be seen as a liberal channel!”

He staved all that off. And lots since.
7) So: @RJonesNews is the new chief. Godspeed to them both. Plus, good timing: Phil would make a good defensive coordinator for his @nyjets.

I know THAT’S not saying much, but this is: @msnbc should build a statue of him.

Bless you Phil.
