I was looking at records on eb*y the other night and came across this private press Bay Area hard rock record that I was unfamiliar with. When I zoomed in on the back cover I noticed a Redwood City mailing address.
I looked at the thanks list and noticed HELEN’S CLEANERS in all caps. I was going to G**gle the address but once I saw Helen’s I knew it had to be the same address.
Usually sellers don’t take such detailed photos of records but this person did so I started looking for any names I might recognize and I found one: Danny Nolan, Lights.
Danny Nolan lived at the end of the block I grew up on. He was older and had the house where all the long haired kids with leather jackets and brushes sticking out of their pockets would hang out. I didn’t know him but knew of him.
Years later I would meet him again through Max Ward who was working with him @ Keplers. I can’t remember how it happened exactly but I ended up trading him a piece of rack gear for a 2x12 Fender cab. I used this cab in Spazz & it ended up on the Electrocutes LP too(another story)
