if we’re incorporating islam in our discussions about struggling with faith, let’s remember it’s reaching and implement them: short thread
islam teaches that internal jihad is the efforts of a believer to fulfill their faith, & is considered the greatest struggle

it refers to the personal struggle against one’s lower self / ego and striving to internalize Islamic teachings through acts of worship and devotion
the quran describes the human soul as having three conditions or potentials which are present within it simultaneously
as a believer cleanses their soul and seeks to replace the bad with good virtues, through engaging in the “greater jihad” or struggle, the soul that incites evil is gradually tamed and begins to give way to the “the reproachful soul”
after much discipline, the “reproachful soul” is further purified of any opposition to Allah’s will and is then ever receptive to blessing. here, the “soul at peace or tranquil soul” begins to dominate
this process is crucial in any believer’s spiritual journey in islam. purification of the soul and complete commitment come with time, and aren’t natural in humans
Allah says in 2:155-156: “We shall certainly test you with fear and hunger, and loss of property, lives, and crops. But [Prophet], give good news to those who are steadfast. Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."
it is evident without doubt that Islam doesn’t condemn struggle, but encourages striving to attain fulfillment in faith. internal struggles don’t define a muslim’s level of faith, their approach to it does
when coming across a struggling believer, we should remember the teachings of Islam and implement them. hint: no where are we taught to shame or silence
true advice is done in private; true concern is voiced with respect. no one is above the other
this is from my humble knowledge, God knows best in the end. correct me if I’m mistaken and if you want references to the part about the souls lmk <3
teachings** not reaching 😭
