Ooh, came back to Twitter today to see that my post yesterday riled some folks up! Couple thoughts about “authority”
One of the things many people do is project their own authority onto others. This is an effective way of placating shame.

“Don’t look at me! He made me do it!”

Or

“I’m not a bigot! I’m just obeying what the Bible says!”

Or

“It must be true, because (authority) says it!”
This is an unconscious projection though because you are the one giving the position of authority to that person/belief system/book...etc

Assuming the authority for your own life lies somewhere outside of you is a way of disempowering yourself and becoming unconscious.
You are the one who decides what authorities you will trust. Just as you’re never “seeing” anything but your own brain (your brains interpretation of the photons that enter your eyeballs), you are never actually trusting any authority other than your own heart/sense of truth
In the same way that you must must trust your sense of vision to trust the road signs, you must first trust your own assumptions of who or what God is in order to “trust God.”

The same principle is true of any belief or worldview.
