So as I sit on my couch, completely dejected from yet another day of technology issues, teachers aren’t doing enough to help the kids and lord only knows what else, it has me thinking. How many teachers, myself included, are looking to get out of the profession? We are demonized
By all sides. Parents think we are lazy, entitled and sit on our piles of cash. Need I remind you that teachers don’t make what you think we do compared to the hours we put in. I’m happy to do it for my students but I can tell you I’m up every day and at my computer at 7-730 am
Grading work from the night before and late work. I have class, call/ email and continue to grade throughout the day and well into the evening. Some days I’m at my desk from 7am-6pm with maybe enough time for a snack and br break. However you call us lazy. Don’t get me wrong
Every profession has those people and teachers are no different. The hours we put in planning, grading, mentoring/ counseling & meetings is on par with any other profession. So the money we make is deserved and then some. I have friends living in studio apartments, living at home
And married couples living with roommates to make ends meet. Parents will say good we don’t need teachers. My response is you don’t know half of what we do and how we prepare for our classes and our students. You’ll love seeing a mass exodus of teachers only to demand we come
Back when your alternative is teachers fresh out of college with no experience. You think we want to stay home? It’s horrible and we miss our kids but we also demand safe conditions for all. Would you go to work in a place with poor ventilation, no windows, no soap in the br
And mice/roaches everywhere? The city thinks we are making unreasonable demands and you know what... maybe you’re right. We demand that the city and the doe takes responsibility for their actions. They have no plans to make schools safer and to help remote learning possible
They are flying by the seat of their pants. They had all summer to work out logistics and failed. There’s no reopening plans even now and parents who opted their kids out can’t send them back for the rest of the year now. Somehow that’s the unions fault.
They still haven’t installed WiFi in many shelters. This pandemic wasn’t going anywhere yet they did nothing. We are told we are giving too much work or too little but never perfect. My school gives Friday off because our kids are exhausted. I have crazy people from CA telling
Me teachers invented zoom/google meet/ technology fatigue. I’m told that teachers in CA are demanding less work days so they can relax and do nothing. These Twitter trolls say teachers manufacture this idea that students are fatigued and mentally drained
I wish I could come to your job and heckle you. We aren’t first responders nor do I claim we did half of what those brave people did but teachers have been there since day 1! Long rant over but before you continue to vilify teachers, take a good hard look
At yourself. I bet a few of us had a major and positive impact on your childhood. You’ll miss us when we’re gone and the people hurt the most are our students. 120+ each year that I call my kids because they are my children .
