So I’ve got reckons about rental housing. We should treat rental owners as business owners. Force them to register, we should have rental housing standards that are like grades - just like the food industry has because housing is a business...
Now with food standards, if someone is made ill, or they are fail to reach a passing standard, they are forced to shut their doors until it’s remedied. Landlords should operate the same way and pay for the tenant to be housed elsewhere while the issue is remedied
If a landlord causes someone to become sick due to negligence about housing conditions then they should be criminally charged. It’s not acceptable to sell food that makes someone sick, so why is it acceptable to sell accommodation that makes people sick.
And it’s my opinion that if the business fails to come up to standard, then the government should be able to confiscate the property and sell it. There’s similar processes for things like rating sales in local govt
