☼ side effects of ed’s and how to prevent/reduce them
#edtwt
hi! just a quick disclaimer the only way to fully get rid of these side effects is if you recover from your ed, this thread is made specifically for people that may not be ready to recover (which is totally valid!) and want to reduce certain side effects they may be facing :)
1: hair loss
hair loss is one of the main side effects of your ed that a lot of us face. this is because you’re not eating enough calories/ getting enough nutrients so your body will prioritise the health of your heart, brain and other organs. +
now depending on wether you have a lot of hair loss or not much here are some tips to help your hair. try to add more foods with biotin to your diet. biotin is a vitamin b which helps certain nutrients convert into energy. biotin deficiency’s can usually lead to +
hair loss. foods that are rich in biotin are egg yolks, oats, wheat grains, white mushrooms and spinach. if you don’t want to include biotin in your diet you can always buy supplements or hair care which includes biotin! biotin also helps your nails and skin
2: tooth erosion
studies show that between 47 and 93% of bulimia nervosa patients exhibit damage to tooth enamel. when purging you bring up stomach acids into your mouth which may cause erosion of the enamel surface on your teeth. a way to reduce tooth erosion is to keep a solution of +
baking soda and water in your fridge. when swished in the oral cavity immediately after vomiting, this solution can neutralize hydrochloric acid and help prevent the most severe erosion. if you don’t have this it’s always a good idea to wash your mouth out with water afterwards.
also it’s NOT a good idea to brush your teeth straight after purging. if the teeth are brushed immediately after vomiting, acid is brushed directly into the tooth surface causing further destruction. at least wait an hour before brushing your teeth!!
3: feeling dizzy/ faint
a lot of us will experience feeling dizzy or faint because our body is not getting enough food which means there’s not enough food to be produced into energy. there’s no real way to fully stop this from happening unless you recover but the best advice i +
can give to you is to high restrict and limit fasts to maximum of 24hours. also make sure to drink lots of water 2L-3L is probably the perfect amount.
4: gastroparesis
gastroparesis is another term for slow digestion. food restriction and vomiting can both interfere with a persons normal stomach emptying and the digestion of nutrients. this can lead to; nausea and vomiting, stomach pains, bloating and blood sugar fluctuations. +
some ways to prevent gastroparesis is to have smaller more frequent meals throughout the day, this means there's less food in your stomach and it will be easier to pass through your system.
two other things you can do is drink non-fizzy drinks with each meal and to make sure you fully chew your food before swallowing!
☼ the end
