THREAD: Oh, hey! I wrote a lot in 2020 (probably the most that Iāve ever written in a whole year), so here is a thread to celebrate. For transparency, I will also include the rates that I was paid
Here we go!

JANUARY: For my first piece at @HuffPost, I wrote about posing naked for an art class because I hated my body and wanted to see it as a work of art: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/posing-nude-live-drawing-class_n_5dfbafd1e4b006dceaaaa77e @msemilymccombs edited. $125.
JANUARY: I told @RealSimple readers some Black authors to read for Black history month: https://www.realsimple.com/work-life/entertainment/books-by-black-authors I can't remember the exact payment, but around $300.
MAY: My second personal essay, about being single and lonely during a pandemic, was published by @trampset. @scottneuffer edited. It was also nominated by Best of Net!: https://trampset.org/wish-you-were-here-82227717f871 $25
JUNE: Of course I had to create a list of anti-racism books for you to purchase! I wrote this for @RealSimple: https://www.realsimple.com/work-life/entertainment/books/books-about-race I want to say that I got paid around $300.
JULY: Oh, wow, another list of books to read and purchase :) I was having trouble concentrating, so I tried to find new books to hold my attention since I was depressed and not able to focus. @RealSimple : https://www.realsimple.com/books/books-for-short-attention-spans Also $300
APRIL: Shit, sorry, I went out of order. Anyway! @wweek gave me a dating column because I was attempting to date during a pandemic. Here is the first article about it: https://www.wweek.com/culture/2020/04/07/it-is-possible-to-date-during-a-pandemic-it-sure-isnt-easy-though/ $163
BACK TO JUNE: I went to a socially distance mixer, thanks to my matchmaker. It went exactly how you would think that it went. I wrote about it for @wweek: https://www.wweek.com/culture/sex/2020/06/15/dating-apps-have-failed-me-would-a-socially-distant-singles-mixer-be-any-better/ I need to write more essays, but it's hard because dating blows. $118
NOVEMBER: I wrote my first essay about selling anti-racism books to white "allies" for @BitchMedia. @RachelCharleneL edited, and she was lovely <3 https://www.bitchmedia.org/article/anti-racist-reading-lists-white-women-vote-trump-again $275
NOVEMBER: I wrote another essay about anti-racism books for @lithub. @cesegal edited it, and she was also lovely! https://lithub.com/about-that-wave-of-anti-racist-bestsellers-over-the-summer/ $200
Finally, DECEMBER: I have two more lists to write for @RealSimple about nostalgia titles and self-help books. I'll make $600 for these two lists.
OCTOBER: Wait, sorry, I also wrote an article for @10BarrelBrewing about Brooklyn Bell, a Black female bicylist and all around badass: https://10barrel.com/2020/10/07/riding-along-with-brooklyn-bell/ $400
Okay, so now I'm done!
TOTAL AMOUNT INVOICED: Around $2,806 (holy shit, that's a lot for me).
Important things to note: I am not a full-time freelance writer. Do not shame these publications for paying me what they paid. I loved working with these publications! They're great!

I included the amounts for transparency reasons. Next year, I want to focus more on personal essays, which I'm very excited about! :D
Feel free to ask me about my experiences or if you want to see my pitches or anything like that.
END.

Iāve only been freelancing for...two years? So Iām not an expert BY ANY MEANS. I get advice from wonderful people who certainly help and guide me. But honestly Twitter as much as you can. You can read more of my work at http://katherinedmorgan.com . Oh, and sign up for my TinyLetter!
