For once, it'd be nice if movies with animal sidekicks showed them being cared for properly and portrayed how they are IRL, so kids don't beg their parents to get them one, only to neglect/abandon them when it turns out they don't live off hugs and make dresses while you sing.
I find this particularly true for rodents and exotic animals, where people generally know less about them, other than assuming "they're easier than cats/dogs because they're smaller." Most are terrible pets for kids and require specialized care, including expensive exotics vets.
I just watched Over the Moon, and it honestly pains me to know how many rabbits probably got adopted/bought after the movie debuted to ill-equipped households or, worse, abandoned at shelters. Please do your research before taking in specialized (or any) pets.
