The following artists have inspired me in many ways, be it because of their skills, imagination, their business sense or their uplifting qualities
⏬⏬
1. Gu Zhen Wei ( @ttguweiz)
Sometimes a simple subject (contemplative /badass women) can turn out amazing if one knows how to set the mood. A master of lighting, brushwork and ambiance, Guweiz has a very unique style.
2. Nekro ( @NekroXIII )
What happens when you cross incredibly detailed art with minimalistic graphic design ?
Superb illustrations populated with localized detail-rich areas (if you enjoy gothic churches and mechanical craftsmanship this is for you) and cool characters.
3. Dave Rapoza ( @DaveRapoza)
Basically the perfect blend of humor and kickass artistry. He posts many steps of his creative process, from the base sketch to the final painted illustration, which is extremely helpful if you're trying to improve.
4. Chun Lo ( @belgeist)
Great character art with the perfect amount of attention to detail and gesture, while keeping a simple background and very clear outlines and color schemes. Basically all the things I'm incapable of doing.
5. @WolfSkullJack
Great lineart ? Check
Beautiful traditional looking colors ? Check
Sounds of a large canine behind you ? Check
6. Ayami Kojima
Probably the artist that has influenced my work the most. Everything is sublime : the composition mixing characters and architectural elements, the oil paint strokes, the fine details on the faces and ornaments... And Castlevania
7. How could I not mention Kentaro Miura ?
The cross-hatching god, master of black and white and truly a creative mind when it comes to designing castles, keeps, armor and weapons.
8. Inoue Takehiko
I'm not even going to comment on this one, and just let the art sink in.
9. J.C. Leyendecker
If someone could paint people who look so tasty you'd eat them, this is it. Lighting, texture, clothing folds and the overall simple composition really are stunning.
10. JM Turner
Mastery of the craft that transcends time. Full stop.
11. One of my all-time favorites : Gustave Doré (finally a Frenchman on this list)
There is very little to add except that I will never lay eyes on anything as beautiful as his biblical engravings and his illustrations for Paradise Lost
12. Darek Zabrocki ( @DarekZabrocki)
Both extremely motivating and paralizing at the same time. His pieces simply contain all the life and activity one could find in real life if they were living the scene.
13. @YusukeMurataArt
I remember when I first picked up Eyeshield 21 when I was in middle school, I couldn't stop dreaming of being an athlete. This man appears to have some kind of motion tracking device inside his mind that allows for amazing movement and dynamism.
Like it so far ? I'm stopping for tonight to draw some more, but I've got a few more up my sleeve so let me know 😊
