Owen is right. Prior to March 2019, soft Brexit was an entirely realistic option and Labour repeatedly proposed it.
But pro-Remain MPs repeatedly voted against any compromises (or abstained) & left us with a choice between Remain and Leave. And the voters chose Leave in 2019. https://twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1335948554930622465

Never forget: Ken Clarke's proposal for a Customs Union Brexit fell by just 3 votes in April 2019.
The SNP (35) abstained, as did Plaid (4) and 5 Lib Dems.
The Independent Group (11), 5 Lib Dems and the Greens (1) all voted against a Customs Union. https://votes.parliament.uk/Votes/Commons/Division/666#ayes

The Customs Union proposal fell by 3 votes. To pass, it would have needed the support of either:
-> SNP (35)
-> Plaid (4)
-> Lib Dems (10)*
-> The Independent Group (11)
Any one of those parties would have been enough to change the outcome.
(*1 LD voted for, & 10 did not)
