From July 2016 until April 2018 there was no mainstream movement to hold a second referendum. Zero. A few prominent outliers on Twitter aside, everything was about making Brexit softer, not overturning it. For that, we were branded as enemies of the country, people and democracy.
In hindsight, of course I regret campaigning against the Norway option in late 2018 and 2019. It would have been despised by Leavers and Remainers but would have been infinitely better than what we now have. It's also true that the gov would have fallen before implementing it.
But the central fact remains that a second referendum was not the grand plan by Remainers but a last throw of the dice when all pleas for compromise had been shouted down and all other options exhausted. This disaster is on the Brexit ultras alone.
