Just want to flag that the Politico reporting that Biden switched from Heitkamp to Vilsack b/c of criticism from @WhipClyburn doesn't fully make sense on it's own, but especially doesn't make sense in light of this from @jmartNYT https://twitter.com/jmartNYT/status/1334971872639913984
. @WhipClyburn's criticisms were: (1) lack of diversity in cabinet picks, (2) "favoring big farming interests over less wealthy people", and (3) the need for more emphasis on hunger and nutrition as these are huge parts of USDA budget. How would those criticisms lead to Vilsack?
Here's a NYT story with some of @WhipClyburn's thoughts. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/26/us/politics/biden-agriculture.html
Read this fantastic thread from @tomphilpott and ask if it makes any sense that admin would respond to @WhipClyburn's criticisms by choosing Vilsack... https://twitter.com/tomphilpott/status/1335999423890018306
