Keep thinking about this term "toxic individuality" and it explains a lot of stuff about our society IMO.
One of the big ones IMO is not caring about anyone's children but your own. Such a big part of our culture, barely anyone even reflects on it.

Robert Putnam wrote a book about it a few years back "Our Kids" focused on his hometown of Port Clinton, Ohio.
I think it comes up a lot with education, school choice, but also with traffic safety. Where the parents are the sole responsible party.

I live next to this elementary school where all the students are low income and many are recent immigrants and refugees. Everyone was excited about it. But the thing is, there are MEGA talented kids at every school in Cleveland. The only thing unusual about this is these students really had an opportunity for their talents to be nurtured and developed.
But for most kids in the district it doesn't happen. Instead mediocre kids whose parents have more money get it instead.
