ugh so annoyed people are still spreading shit about sonic mania's devs being "screwed" over
The "lead developer" was just Headcannon who did NOT blamed SEGA for the financial problem they were in when they kickstarted Vertebreaker. Stealth only brought SEGA up because people kept assuming he's a millionaire from making Mania.

Stop twisting the fucking narrative, idiots
And everyone else either moved on to other things or formed Evening Star. Literally, the whole shit is not bleak like you idiots keep claiming it to be
Also some things to state since this is suddenly blowing up:

Lack of royalties suck yes. But they were contract, meaning they agreed to it. Doesn't mean it's okay but:

Most of my issue about this is how people framed it as "SEGA hates fans too!"
Heck, I don't think even Sonic Team gets royalties from their games either. In fact, pretty sure most game developers don't get royalties. Painting this as just some "SEGA are mean to Mania developers :(" is disingeuinous when this is an industry-standard that should be changed.
Also I realllly doubt SEGA is jealous/mad that Mania did well. Why would they when they benefit from Mania's success to begin with? "Mania devs made the better game, so SEGA hates them!!" is non-sense. SEGA doesn't make the actual Sonic games, Sonic Team does.
And given folks from Sonic Team was involved with Mania such as Iizuka, I doubt they harbor any ill towards the devs either.
And a lot of those statements were baseless to begin with. Like, what indication was there that SEGA/Sonic Team hated the devs to begin with, other than the recent discourse where a lot of people didn't bother doing any research in?
Oh and one more thing, on a side note: Can we also kill the narrative that SEGA hired the Mania devs because "hey you make cool fan stuff"? They came at SEGA with the pitch and they liked it enough to approve the project. Just like any other studio project pitch.
Oh while I'm at that and let's also kill the narrative that the Mania devs worked at SEGA. No, they never worked at SEGA. They're their own studios, not owned by SEGA. lol
