2 bills will be discussed about RCV: one on rolling out voter education and the other on the reporting of unofficial election night results.
@BOENYC is willing to work with CFB to do voter education and they believe that the public education piece of RCV is incredibly important. It is a concern that it gets done effectively and must include poll worker education.
Unfortunately, according to @BOENYC , it will be difficult to report 'unofficial election night results' via RCV. "We need 'cast vote record' access, but they are in each individual system in the field" said Director Ryan.
CFB has only allocated $1 million to RCV initiatives. That's it. Thank you @cmlauriecumbo for asking this question.
If the @BOENYC knew there would be a special election in CD24, why didn't they prepare before? Response from NYCBOE is "The software is approved by State BOE. We did not get an answer from State BOE. We're in the middle of a pandemic too. We have not stopped working since..."
Council member Yeger states, "RCV is racist. My district overwhelmingly rejected RCV because they understand its implications. Education of a new system through a magazine and online system is leaving behind people who are new to voting or speak a different language..."
Council member @AlickaASamuel41 asks @BOENYC Chairperson, "Do you think that we should be moving forward with implementing RCV in 2021?" He says, "We don't have a choice bc we have a legal mandate."
Campaign Finance Board could not name ONE organization they plan to work with to do Rank Choice Voting outreach in Southeast Queens.
CFB has not budgeted for additional translation outside of these 5 languages for voter outreach: English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Bangla.
