Everything I've learned on Twitter (so far):
I started this account a little less than 8 months ago

I've gained 17k followers and made $$$ from the bird app in that timespan

I started out as anon and migrated into a personal brand some months ago

I believe I hold a unique perspective, will share it now
This thread will be sub-divided into 5 major sections:

1 - Content
2 - Psychology
3 - Positioning
4 - The actual *secret* to be successful here
5 - Extra insights

Now, I want to make this worth your time

Everything will be value-packed so read until the end
Section 1 - Content

To me, there are 5 major types of content:

1 - Platitudes
2 - Stories
3 - Threads
4 - Shitposts
5 - Commentary

I'll go a bit in-depth in all of them, their purpose, how I use them
1 - Platitudes

Yeah, I don't like these that much

They have the highest chance of going viral

To me, they serve two purposes

Filler content (Because the algorithm rewards you for being active prolific)
To go viral (or attempt to)

Here's an example
Now, I'm not going to trash platitudes

They are the relatable content to most people

If you're good at writing them, the algorithm will reward you because all the normies will relate therefore like and RT

I only write them when I can't tap into my creative juices
The quality of followers you'll get from these is low

High chances of going viral and getting you followers but these are people that won't be that invested in you

Also, if you're a theme page account (anon, focused on a specific thing) you can get away with them more easily
2 - Stories

These are great

If you can pull off small stories with great writing, it will also get good exposure

The great part about it is that the quality of followers you get from these are way better

Here's an example
Now here's a funny insight

Even though the first tweet got around 6 times the amount of likes of the second one

The second one got 9x the amount of profile clicks

Means people were a lot more interested to see who I was
The reason for that is because people get more invested in you and your story

They also usually get more profile clicks

Harder to pull off, require more writing skill, and for you to actually have a story to tell

Much more rewarding tho

Next up...
3 - Threads

Threads have the highest ROI on Twitter Dot Com

It's a chance for you to showcase writing skill, storytelling ability, and expertise

People love these

Mostly because people love to get value for free

Here's another thing...
95% of people who read your thread won't do jack shit with the information you give them

But they will get impressed like "Woah, this guy really knows what he is talking about"

This builds you a lot of authority

Also, you get the most followers out of these

Next...
4 - Shitposts

These are great

Entertaining, build a bigger connection with your audience because it showcases your ability to entertain and be an actual human

Don't be afraid to do them

But if you're serious about Twitter, also make sure all your content revolves around it
5 - Commentary

This is stuff like asking questions to your audience and replying to other people

Have a chance to go viral if they're relevant to the times

(Eg: How many people do you know that have Covid?)

Everyone will hop on that bandwagon

It's relevant to the times
When it comes to replies, I like to keep it light with my homies

I don't do a lot of these, but the algorithm will reward you a lot if you're prolific/insightful/funny on your replies

It's an important aspect of the game, don't dismiss it
Section 2 - Psychology

Now, we're on Social Media

We, humans, are tribal by nature

We like to feel exclusivity

We want to have people to look up to and follow

We also want to have someone to put the blame on for our failures

Political Twitter is a great example of this
This is to say...

Most people on this app don't listen to nuanced takes. (Most)

They want black and white (Even tho almost everything is too complex to be black and white)
Here's how you can use this to your advantage:

Us Vs. Them

This works great not only on Twitter but in most contexts

You stand by something and you create an enemy

Someone to put the blame on

You're also polarizing in your tweets
You discard nuance

And you make extreme statements like "X is the best, Y is the worst"

This will make some people really dislike you but at the same time...

The ones that do like you, will become adoring fans

You build a cult type following
Now, I'm not saying you have to use this

I don't like to use it and I don't use it often

But it's a great "hack"

People love conflict, it's entertaining to them

Why do you think gladiators were a big deal back in the day?

We want to see carnage

Humans are petty like that
Just remember that whatever you put out there, is what you will attract

I'm a bigger fan of freethinking

Might not get me as much of a "cult type" following BUT I don't like to enforce my ideologies on other people

Everything works

Just pick your poison and roll with it
Section 3 - Positioning

How you position yourself is also important

People care about status

They want to know what you've done, what you're doing, what have you accomplished

Twitter is not different from a High-Corporate environment

Here's my advice regarding positioning
If you want to own an audience/make money on the Bird App you have to position yourself as someone who knows what they're talking about

But...

Stay transparent and patient

Don't pretend to be someone you're not for the sake of positioning
Real ones will see through it and understand the game you're playing

It might take longer for you to reap the rewards but it's the best approach in the long-run

Helps with your reputation and you don't sacrifice integrity

Stay real at all times
Section 4 - The actual *secret* to be successful here

These are the 3 key ingredients you need to do well here:

1 - Leverage
2 - Network
3 - The ability to communicate ideas well
Let's start with leverage

Having leverage outside of Twitter is the biggest "growth hack"

Why? Because you actually have shit to talk about

Lessons to share, stories to tell, wisdom to spread

If you have done something that most people haven't done outside of Twitter...
You have big leverage

And just having that will allow you to grow very quickly and make a lot of moolah

But it's not enough...

You also have to build a network
"Play long term games with long term people" - Naval

It's absolutely key to your success here

A big network means more eyes on your shit

Let's say you have a 10k account

But in your network, there are 10 more 10k accounts

Y'all vibe and fuck with each other
Now the people in your network will interact with you

Y'all will share each other's content

Y'all mutually grow 10x as faster

Not only that, but y'all also share everything you know with each other

This gives a major competitive edge and sets you apart from the rest
3 - The ability to communicate ideas well

Whether through writing (my favorite medium), images, videos etc

The ability to communicate ideas clearly is crucial
The better you are at packaging a complex idea

Break it down into 280 characters, a simple image, or a short video and display it in an easy-to-digest format to the masses

The better you'll do on Twitter
Section 5 - Extra insights

Random observations I've made over time

1 - It's easier to grow as anon if you can create a unique aesthetic, also you can get away with lower quality content.
2 - When you're a personal brand, being personal hits a lot harder than platitudes
3 - Stories are great
4 - Threads are king (always have been)
5 - Being funny is an art, not a lot of people can pull it off, especially harder when you're not anon (if you a dark humor guy) cuz you got your face out there
6 - Tweets have a snowball effect if rt'ed early
7 - Algo rewards you highly for being prolific
8 - Most of your time should be spent building your skillset/your relationships, if you do both, an opportunity is bound to knock at your doorstep
9 - People who do well on Twitter, are usually doing well outside of it
10 - Repetition of content is also rewarding (People relate to what's familiar, so recycling content with minimal tweaks has high ROI if you don't want to spend a lot of time here)
11 - Novelty sometimes is also great
12 - It's more about how much people like you than it is about quality of content
13 - People are walking contradictions (they'll dislike you for doing X, but support their friend for doing exactly the same, weird I know lol)
14 - Drama is wack
15 - Preemptive blocks at all times
16 - There are people that won't vibe with you or your shit (This is good)
17 - Only a handful are worth following for the content (If we're talking content, I'm not worth following by my own standards, only two I'd follow solely for the content is YousXp and Callicrates)
18 - Twitter gets 100x easier when you ride with chill homies who support you
19 - If you're unhappy with your TL is time to mute/block some people
20 - Follower count is a horrible indicator to measure an audience
21 - Unplug, often
22 - You're supposed to enjoy it
23 - Remember this is just an app, everything is practically an illusion (so if you caught yourself being stressed cuz of this shit, remember it's all virtual)
24 - You'll feel the urge to share wins, most of the time you shouldn't (validation will make you comfortable)
25 - Keep it low-key, always

Regarding the make money I won't dive deep into it

I'll say this tho...
A lot of you are selling Gumroad courses and are missing out on a lot of opportunities

With the right systems implemented on the back-end, you could be 10xing the money you're getting/increasing the relationship value between you and your customers

But that's for another thread
This is all for the moment

If you enjoyed it, drop a RT (or not)

If y'all would like to ask me anything regarding this, send me a DM with your questions

Maybe I'll put all of this (and a lot more) into a product

Who knows

Thanks for reading
