For me, school reopening is the largest/most urgent K-12 education topic right now.

So I find it strange that it's not being covered closely & that some obvious questions aren't being asked.

For example, where do the major EdSec candidates and civil rights leaders stand?
Perhaps the questions are being asked, but I haven't seen them.

Whether you support or oppose a speedy reopening, you want to the positions of national education leaders.
I sense among reporters that reopening is seen as some sort of ugly sideshow, or that it represents a privileged white perspective.
In addition to wondering what the EdSec candidates' positions are, I'm also curious if there's any reopening language in the compromise CARES bill being worked out now. As @dannydcarlson explained to me the other day, the McConnell proposal has in-person requirements.
I'd also love to read more about parents of color who have made the in-person decision, one way or the other.

There are 120K nonwhite NYC parents in hybrid, according to the DOE, but I haven't seen enough coverage of their experiences or others like them in other places.
Lately, international outlets and non-education journalist seem to have a strong grasp of the size and urgency of the issue.

Here's the latest from the FT: http://ow.ly/VN4L30rnxzN
This is a story that US news outlets with strong education teams could (and should) own.

I'm going to see if I can figure out where the reluctance comes from, or if there's something I'm missing.
