A thread: As a decent human being I wholeheartedly believe black lives matter but I cannot support the organisation Black Lives Matter. 1/10
Although decentralised, BLM has many spokespeople such as @sashajohnsonBLM who seek to incite racial hatred rather than uniting those of all races. For that reason alone I cannot be associated with hypocrites who very much are, who they claim to be against. 2/10
BLM began as a social movement in the US with the unnecessary and disproportionate deaths of black and other minority ethnic people in America. The focus was on racism and made us think about our own bias and prejudices. 3/10
With the deaths of white people too, it also helped us to see part of the cause included the police's use of force and lack of de-escalation and that these things would have to be addressed immediately and reform would need to take place. 4/10
Unfortunately some used this platform to promote "defunding the police" which had genuine merits such as focusing more on preventive measures but many were anti-police and known criminals and failed to address that inaction and a lack of role models (which come at no cost) 5/10
are the reason that crime is rising and there are still not enough officers to react to crime. I also cannot support an organisation where the funds are not transparent and there are possible links to political organisations esp. with evidence of interference from abroad 6/10
and companies such as Cambridge Analytica. As a social movement I believe it should be apolitical and neutral, offering a charitable service to victims of racism and offering support for things such as hate crimes or related incidents. An organisation that seeks to impose 7/10
it's message so forcefully will only further divisions and cause those who are racist to plant their roots further in to the ground. As a symbol of taking the knee, I thought it was a powerful reminder of the death of George Floyd but like the weekly applause of the NHS, it 8/10
seems hollow after so long. If there was another hashtag social movement that became an organisation which advocated for the end of racism, provided a charitable service whilst being apolitical with full transparency.. then I would gladly be part of it but this is not it. 9/10
Racism still exists in every single part of the world and #blacklivesmatter ... but for those reasons and even as a mixed race person with many black friends and family, I cannot support the specific organisation Black Lives Matter. 10/10
