Ku Li should read about how vaccines work before releasing statements like this, which can be damaging if public refuse to get vaccinated or have vaccine hesitancy.

First, any vaccine’s aim is to prevent the disease, not prevent the infection. There is a difference. https://twitter.com/501awani/status/1335794005657808897
If u get vaccinated, u don’t develop the disease, hence preventing the severe disease, complications & ultimately prevent deaths.

Just take a look at the #COVID19 death numbers worldwide & it will tell u how much of an impact a vaccine will make.
The Pfizer vaccine was developed early in the year, when the concern was to reduce hospitalisation & severe diseases. If we read both Pfizer & Moderna’s press release, their primary endpoint of the vaccine design is to stop symptomatic disease.

Which the trials showed.
Secondary endpoint were to reduce transmission. At the moment, there is not enough data to say whether it does, that is why Pfizer cannot commit to it when asked. We will need a longer time to see if it does.

Technically, it will have an effect of transmission, just how much.
Evidence show highest viral shedding (contagious period) is around day of symptom onset. So if we prevent symptoms, we will indirectly prevent transmission.

Yes, there is evidence of asymptomatic transmission but it is not the main driver of outbreaks.
Lastly, even if the vaccine do not transmission in a vaccinated person, herd immunity will push the disease out of population gradually.

This is perhaps most important reason for mass vaccination & crucial to keep the vulnerable population safe.
More importantly, a vaccine is not the end of the pandemic. We still need other proven measures like face masks, p. distancing, personal hygiene, etc.

Still many questions about the vaccines but we should understand the science before giving out wrong information.
