I work in PR nowadays, but in my heart I'm still a journalist.

The absolute biggest lie gamers believe that leads to some much unnecessary hate towards game journos is that they sit around playing games all day and get paid ÂŁ40-100k.
The vast majority of game journalists I've met work in retail and do it on the side. Maybe 5-10 big positions exist that pay ÂŁ30k.

They get paid ÂŁ100-200 for reviewing a 100+hr game (not paid for play time) then get online hate. It's not worth it unless you really love games.
I'm not saying 'boohoo, poor game journalists', but the fact is they're not paid anything like folk think they are, and they're only paid to write, not to play.

They get a LOT of hate online for such busy work and little pay. People only do that if they genuinely love games.
The problem I'm facing with this games journalism thread is the 'you're lying because Jason Schreier said he earned $100k' crowd.

It's like saying most chefs are rich because Gordon Ramsay earns a lot. Most people are not Jason Schreier or, in fact, Gordon Ramsay.
