The Butchertown/Phoenix Hill/NuLu area is 53% black. Meanwhile guess how many black people were on their 15-member neighborhood plan advisory board? ZERO. I'm expected to sponsor this plan next month but refuse to unless we can make sure their black residents are represented.
ICYMI this area has experienced mass displacement of unhoused people as well as people who were once living there in public housing. These people were predominantly black. The remaining black population is now being largely ignored.
I know first-hand because @BriannaAWright and I spent months talking to residents. Their interests are not represented in the neighborhood plan.
So you have it backwards. It's not that I'm refusing to represent everyone. It's just that I'm exposing the fact we don't all need the same level of representation and that some of us have never felt represented.
