Huge news for us

We hit our FI number in November

🥳🎉🍾

Here's how we got here

// THREAD
1. Skeptical of Debt.

The-other MM grew up in a family laden with debt.

So we've avoided it for 20 years.

We got our mortgage cleared in 6 years.

We carry <2% of our NW as 0% debt.

CCs cleared within 30 days + harvested for rewards.
2. Grow Income.

We push for more income.

From 9-5: promotions, job changes

Outwith 9-5: side income

And from investments

You can't save yourself to a million.
3. Measure

Spreadsheets are my crack, my opiate 📈📊

We keep track of our income & expenses & investments.

At least monthly.

This keeps us right and on track.

You get what you measure.
4. Compound

We save + invest heavily, and have done since 2004

This means our wealth is growing

And growing faster every year
5. Frugality

We're frugal.

We avoid lifestyle creep.

We avoid buying the latest 'stuff'.

We've grown to become grateful for what we have.

So windfalls go straight to investments.

With a wee treat to celebrate.
6. Habits

Good finances are only possible with good habit building.

We work on our habits and our routines.

Both good and bad.
7. Health before Wealth

Both the other-MM and I have suffered ill health.

I've lost 4 of my family to ill health over the past 6 years.

So we look after ourselves. As best we can.

Or what's the point?
8. Continuously Improve

We believe in being above average.

To do that, you need to grow.

You need to learn

So we're always looking to improve.
9. Journey's End

But our path to Financial Independence isn't over.

This FI number gives us 25% over our actual expenses and 60% over our minimum expenses.

But it's not enough for us.

We're carrying on.
