Friday the 4th of December was the worst day of my life, I was the first person to see the CT scan report for my 6 year old niece which said that she had a large anterior mediastinal mass spreading into her neck, most likely advanced T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia
I feel so helpless, as an aunt and as a Doctor, I’m trying to do everything I can from 5000 miles away, I’ve spent nearly every waking hour for the past 3 days speaking to doctors in Pakistan trying to get her seen by the best Paediatric Oncologist in the country
All I keep hearing is “you need to act fast” because the mass could start pressing on her heart and major blood vessels, but she is so weak, she barely weighs 18kg and all I keep thinking is how is my tiny, weak baby girl going to tolerate the rigorous treatment that lies ahead
Please hold your loved ones close and always remember how fortunate we are to have free healthcare in the NHS. I would do anything to get her on the next flight here, where I could watch over every stage of her treatment & hold her hand knowing she was getting the best care
I’d take every cancerous cell from her body and put it in my own if it meant she could be pain free and play without gasping for breath and my sister could sleep knowing that the baby girl she prayed for, for so many years is going to be okay
I still can’t gage the sheer emotional and financial burden her illness treatment is going to have on our family or the burden it’ll have on her already weak little body but I’m determined to do everything in my power to save her life
I’m in desperate need of all your dua’s, please pray for her swift recovery and good health. She is the light of our lives and I’d be utterly lost without her. If you see this tweet please take a moment to recite Al-Fatiha or Durood Shareef for her, Jazak’Allah khair.
