THREAD: People really need to read AO3 Terms of Service & FAQs.

Multiple different sections clearly state:

“Users are responsible for reading and heeding warnings provided by the creator.”

“Ratings measure the intensity of a work’s content and gives users an

[1+]
idea of a work’s suitability for them.”

“In most cases users can control their experiences by accessing only the works that have ratings and warnings that are acceptable to them.”

“Ratings or warnings can attract some readers looking for specific content, and they can also
[2+]
warn off readers trying to avoid that content.”

“Accessing a Not Rated, Mature or Explicit work will show a warning that the work may contain adult content.”

“Users will be asked to agree to see Mature, Explicit or Unrated content.”

[3+]
Children under 13 are not allowed to join AO3, let alone post content. You should NOT be on the site, period bc it is NOT meant for you.

Ratings are given a clear explanation.

You can avoid certain content by USING RATINGS, TAGS, WARNINGS. (Also the ‘Exclude’ filter)

[4+]
AO3 put 6 steps in place:

*Age under 13 can’t join
*Ratings
*Warnings
*Tags
*Asked to agree to see Mature, Explicit or Unrated works, every time (disable this feature at your own risk)
*Exclude filter available

It’s on YOU if you ignored all these stages of protection.

[5+]
You AGREE to AO3’s ToS when signing up.

STOP bashing creators just bc you can’t be bothered to use the 6 layers of protection provided by AO3, to only see content you’re comfortable with.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your own choice to ignore/not use those 6 protections!

[6+]
In addition, AO3 does not allow “content that contains or links to child pornography.”

AO3 defines CP as “images of real children”. NOT fictional characters.

Legally, in order for it to be CP, CSA/ pedophilia, there must be a REAL LIFE CHILD involved.

[7+]
👉Stop vilifying creators for a work of fiction, all bc you:

*Can’t tell the difference between reality/fiction.
*Don’t understand the LEGAL definitions of the labels you’re using to demonise people who aren’t breaking either AO3 ToS or the law, with their fictional works.

[8+]
Please also note that AO3 policy is they will not remove works unless the works violate one of their other policies.

👉Stop demanding they take works down just bc you don’t want to use the 6 protections they already provided you with to filter out content you don’t want

[9+]
And finally:

If you’re not happy with AO3’s content/their policy on content, may I suggest exercising some (un)common sense; LEAVE AO3. DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT.

YOU agreed to the terms when YOU signed up.

If you don’t like it, LEAVE. Don’t expect an ENTIRE SITE to change FOR YOU.
