On to the future. When the USA falters they out do the world, like the spread of coronavirus and reactions to it. When the USA recovers, from anything, they out do the world...like I suggest the vaccine finding and soon to be roll out. Operation warp speed is working.
In the 1980s Japan was more efficient. The USA was “losing”. They united and became vastly more efficient. They depended on foreign oil and were held at ransom by OPEC. They united and are energy independent now. They were isolationists in the 1930s. On Dec 7, 1941 they united
They built the most vast and strongest war machine the world had ever seen....in 3 years. In the spring of 1861 the civil war broke out. The north had 15000 men under arms. Four years later they had in the North 3.5 million well trained and supplied men under arms.
This is a nation born of unfathomable revolt against the most crushingly powerful empire on earth in 1776. They are a relentlessly warring nation, from generation to generation. With their economy and people in disarray the pandemic has wreaked economic havoc and division.
For these reasons I believe they will turn inward now and roll out vaccinations in a time no one can imagine. If I am right then what happens when they are far ahead and start rolling in to do business. Do our borders remain shut? Do they have to quarantine here in say June?
What happens when our people go there in February and March and get vaccinated or snowbirds come back with proof of vaccinations? No quarantine? Creating two levels of citizens. Those who fly down and back and those who can’t. The problem of our lag will be multifactorial.
Our lag in vaccinations doesn’t just cause frustration but also likely internal social issues. No problem though if USA for the first time in history don’t unite and lead the world. But at least we had the fleeting moment of their usual division and disarray to talk about.
